ATJ Board Law School Relations Committee

Mission

The ATJ Law School Relations Committee fosters collaboration among Alliance members and law schools to ensure that every law student in the state has an understanding of the importance of public interest law; is familiar with the Alliance for Equal Justice; has an opportunity to work with Alliance members in some capacity as a student; develops an appreciation for the work that is being done on behalf of low-income clients; and has a commitment to support the Alliance's work in some capacity after law school.

Current Goals and Initiatives

The work of the Committee is largely conducted through its subcommittees:

  • The Fellowships Subcommittee works to increase the number of fellowships placed in Washington State.
  • The Laurel Rubin Rural Externship Advocacy Program (REAP) Subcommittee works on a unique externship program that places three bilingual (Spanish-speaking) law students in the Yakima Valley, with Northwest Justice Project, Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, and Columbia Legal Services.
  • The Outreach Subcommittee brings together law students and the civil legal aid providers in the Alliance for Equal Justice by coordinating events such as job shadows, student participation at Alliance events and conferences, and hosting the annual Alliance Summer Intern Orientation.
