Approximately 92,000 seniors in Washington live on incomes of less than $11,770 per year.

Your support of the WSBA Elder Law Section’s Peter Greenfield Senior Advocacy Summer Internship can make a difference for those seniors.

As the size of Washington’s older population continues to grow, the need for legal advocacy for vulnerable seniors becomes more and more urgent. Peter Greenfield worked tirelessly on behalf of low-income seniors during his career with Columbia Legal Services (CLS). To honor Peter’s advocacy for vulnerable seniors and his active involvement in WSBA, the Elder Law Section created a summer internship at CLS in Peter’s name and established a fund with the Washington State Bar Foundation to sustain it.

Each year, the Elder Law Section supports a summer internship for a student from one of Washington's three law schools, rotating schools each year. The interns spend 10-12 weeks at the Seattle CLS office providing advocacy and research, learning about the broader themes of elder law while supporting the systems reform that was the hallmark of Peter Greenfield’s work.

We want more students to have this experience, and to consider a future in elder law. Please help support the Peter Greenfield Senior Advocacy Summer Internship Scholarship Fund so we can keep this invaluable program going. Your gift has leverage. Gonzaga, Seattle University, and University of Washington match our contributions for a $5,000 scholarship annually.
