2014 WSBA Taxation Section LL.M. Scholarship

The Washington State Bar Association Tax Section is pleased to announce its annual $5,000 LL.M. Scholarship. Eligible applicants are those who have been accepted by, and plan to attend, a Tax LL.M. program in 2014-2015 at an accredited United States law school. This includes those who graduated from law school before 2014 and those already enrolled on a part-time basis in a Tax LL.M. program. The scholarship committee will evaluate the following factors in awarding the scholarship: (a) academic record, (b) the demonstrated intent to become an active member of the Washington State Bar Association Tax Section upon completion of your tax LL.M., and (c) financial need. The scholarship will be awarded at the Tax Section Annual Luncheon on May 6, 2014.

Applications must be received no later than April 25, 2014. Applicants may apply for the scholarship by sending the following information to Rich Johnson by email at

  • Resume, including name, address, phone number, email address, name of law school and graduation date;
  • Acceptance Letter from an LL.M. Tax Program;
  • Law school transcript; and
  • Written explanation not to exceed 2 double spaced pages, addressing: your commitment to practice law in Washington State; reasons for pursuing an LL.M. financial need for the scholarship.

Submit your application to Rich Johnson no later than April 25, 2014. Applicants may be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee by telephone. The scholarship recipient is encouraged to attend the Tax Section Annual Luncheon on May 6, 2014 (the registration fee is waived). Those related to members of the Tax Section Executive Council are not eligible for the scholarship.

Thank You to Scholarship Donors

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the 2013 scholarship campaign. You contributed $4,620 toward the $5,000 scholarship awarded to Liberty Upton. The scholarship would not be possible without the support of our generous donors.
