Instructions for Online License Renewal

Online Licensing opens in mid October 

Deadline: February 3, 2014


What You Will Need to Complete Your Renewal

All members must have a valid email address on file with the WSBA (see Login below).

Active Members

  • You will need to know whether you are covered by Professional Liability Insurance and if so, whether you intend to maintain that insurance while engaged in private practice.
  • You will need to know whether you or your firm maintain(s) an IOLTA account or other client trust account(s) for the deposit of client funds received in connection with representations undertaken using your Washington license. If so, you will need the Institution, Branch/City and IOLTA Account number(s).
  • If this is your year to report MCLE compliance, you may need your MCLE records if you plan to add courses to your roster.
  • If you are reporting pro bono service hours, you will need the number of hours you are reporting for RPC 6.1(a) and (b).
  • You will need your credit card number, expiration date, verification code and the name on the card.

Inactive Members

  • You will need your credit card number, expiration date, verification code and the name on the card.

Emeritus Members

  • You will need your credit card number, expiration date, verification code and the name on the card.

Login

  • In order to use mywsba, you must have a valid email address on file with the WSBA.
  • If you do not have an email address on file, please contact the WSBA Service Center to add one.
  • Go to mywsba. Click Login in the top right corner of the screen.
  • If you know your password, click Login and enter your WSBA Bar number in the "Bar Number/Login" and your password in the "Password" field and click the Login button.
  • If you do not know your password, click the "Forgot password?" link under the Login button.
    • In the "Email Address" field, enter the primary email address you have on file with the WSBA.
    • Click Continue.
    • Your password will be emailed to you immediately.

    My Profile

    After logging in to mywsba and clicking My Profile, you will see links on the left:

    • Licensing
      • Use to access your annual license renewal.
      • MCLE
        • Use to access your MCLE roster

        And links on the right:

        • Change Password
        • Edit My Contact Info
          • Note: Your Home address/phone will be made public if it is the only official address on file.
          • Edit My Contact Restrictions
          • Join a Section
          • Information on Committees/Boards/Panels

          License Renewal

          • Once online licensing opens in mid October, you may click Licensing and Start License Renewal to begin license renewal.
          • Active and Emeritus members: you will be provided the options to change to Inactive or Voluntarily Resign.
          • All other members will be provided the option to Voluntarily Resign only. (See Membership Changes section below.)
          • If you click either of those options, you will be given information on what that membership change entails and you may certify and submit the change.
          • If you leave "I want to remain in my current membership" selected and click Continue, you will be taken to your Licensing Summary page where you can continue the renewal process.

          Membership Changes

          For more information on the membership classes listed below, see Membership Changes.

          • To change to Inactive, mark "I want to change my membership to Inactive" when you first begin license renewal. On the next page, mark the box to certify and click the button to Submit Inactive Application. Next, click the License Fee Payment link to submit payment of $200 for the Inactive License Fee (or $260 to include the 30% late fee if you are paying after 2/3/14).
          • To Resign, mark the "I want to Voluntarily Resign my WSBA membership" when you first being license renewal. On the next page, mark the checkbox and click Confirm Voluntary Resignation.
          • To apply to change to Active, download the Request for Application form or contact the WSBA to request the form.
          • To apply to change to Judicial, download the form or contact the WSBA to request the form.
          • To apply to change to Inactive-Honorary (if admitted to the WSBA and Active or Judicial for 50 years or more), download the form or contact the WSBA to request the form.
          • To apply to change to Emeritus, download the form. Training is required.

          Licensing Summary

          • After you complete the WSBA Membership page, you will be taken to the Licensing Summary page.
          • From here, you may click on the following links:
            • Professional Liability Insurance Disclosure (if you are Active)
            • Trust Account Information Form (if you are Active)
            • License Fee Payment
            • MCLE Certification (C2) (if it is your year to report)
            • Voluntary Reporting of Pro Bono Publico Service Hours
            • Mandatory steps that you have completed will be listed in the "Completed" section. 
            • Mandatory steps that you have not completed will be listed in the "Not Completed" section.

            Professional Liability Insurance Disclosure

            Trust Account Information Form

            • Pursuant to ELC 15.5, this form must be completed by all Active members, regardless of whether you have a trust account. Failure to comply may result in a Supreme Court order of suspension (Amended APR 17).
            • Mark Yes or No to the question on the form.
            • If you answered Yes, fill out the Institution, Branch/City and IOLTA Account number(s) and click Add Trust Account.
            • Click Save and Continue.

            License Fee Payment

            • When you click the License Fee Payment link, you will be taken to a page where you can join or renew Section memberships. (See Section Membership section below.)
              • To join or renew a section, check the box next to that section.
              • Click Save and Continue.
              • The box at the top of the License Fee Payment page will list any applicable items:
                • 2014 License Fee
                • Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection Assessment (for Active members)
                • Optional charitable donation to the Washington State Bar Foundation
                • Optional charitable donation to LAW Fund's Campaign for Equal Justice
                • Section memberships 
                • Late Fee of 30% if you are paying after 2/3/14 (see chart)
                • On the License Fee Payment page, you may check the Keller Deduction box to take the deduction.
                • The annual license renewal includes an optional charitable donation of $50 to the Washington State Bar Foundation, the nonprofit organization that engages members of the bar and public in supporting WSBA’s justice, public service and diversity programs. To opt out or adjust the donation, enter '0' or enter a different amount.
                • The annual license renewal includes an optional charitable donation of $50 to LAW Fund/C4EJ. This annual campaign helps ensure equal access to justice for all Washingtonians, regardless of financial standing, by raising funds to create a stable base of support for our state's civil legal aid programs. To opt out or adjust the donation, enter '0' or enter a different amount.
                • Enter your credit card type, number, verification number, expiration date, and the name on the card and click Process Payment.
                • Print the receipt for your records and click Continue

                MCLE Certification

                If this is your Reporting Period you may be able to submit your MCLE Certification online.

                • If you have met your credit requirement, "MCLE Credit Requirements" will be listed as "Completed."
                • If you have not met your credit requirement, "MCLE Credit Requirements" will be listed as "Not Completed."
                  • Click the "MCLE Credit Requirements" link to add more courses to your roster or submit Form 1 applications for course approval.
                  • If you have submitted your C2, "MCLE Certification (C2)" will be listed as "Completed/Pending Review."
                    • Once your C2 is submitted, check back for compliance determination (allow at least 3–4 weeks). The status will be noted in your MCLE online records. If anything else is required, an email will be sent to the email address on file.
                    • If your C2 is approved, “MCLE Certification (C2)” will be listed as “Completed.” Your new 2014-2016 reporting period will show on your MCLE records.
                    • If you have not submitted your C2, "MCLE Certification (C2)" will be listed as "Not Completed."
                      • Click the "MCLE Certification (C2)" link to verify your roster and submit your C2.
                      • If you are certifying via comity you cannot certify online. Submit your Comity Certificate of MCLE Compliance form with a paper C2 form.

                      MCLE Deadlines:

                      • All credits must be completed by December 31, 2013.
                      • Online MCLE certification (C2 form) must be completed by February 3, 2014.
                      • Paper C2 forms must be postmarked or delivered by February 3, 2014. You must submit a paper C2 form if
                        • You are not credit compliant before the C2 form is due;
                        • You are credit compliant but Form 1s for some of your credits needed for compliance have not yet been approved;
                        • You are certifying via comity. 
                        • If you are not credit compliant, you must submit a petition by February 3, 2014 to request an extension.
                        • Note: Late fees are assessed if the credit and/or certification deadlines are not met.

                        Voluntary Reporting of Pro Bono

                        • In this section you may report the number of hours of pro bono publico service, as defined in RPC 6.1, that you provided in 2013.
                        • Use the first row of boxes to report hours of free legal services provided to persons of limited means and/or to organizations that address needs of persons of limited means (RPC 6.1(a)).
                        • Use the second row of boxes to report hours of other pro bono or reduced-fee services provided (RPC 6.1(b)).
                        • If you contributed 50 or more hours, you will receive commendation in NWLawyer and WSBA website unless you check the box stating that you prefer to remain anonymous.
                        • You may complete the other portions of your renewal early and report your service hours at the end of 2013.

                        Section Membership

                        • You may join or renew Section memberships either during the license renewal process or by clicking the Join a Section link on the right side of the My Profile page.
                        • If you were a sections member last year, you will see a list of those sections during the license renewal process and be able to renew them.
                        • Since the Section Membership Year is October 1, 2013, through September 30, 2014, we encourage you to join or renew sections in October to receive the full benefit of the membership. You may join or renew section memberships independent of the license renewal.

                        Is Your License Renewal Complete?

                        When you log in and click Licensing after you have gone through the renewal process:

                        • Current Licensing Renewal and MCLE Status will say “Complete” or “Not Complete.”
                        • Mandatory steps will be listed as “Completed” or “Not Completed.”
                        • Optional steps will say “Completed” if they have been completed.

                        To pay your license fees online, simply access the WSBA Member Login page and follow the directions.
