Checklist for Paper License Renewal

License Packets are mailed in mid October

Deadline: February 3, 2014

If you are Active, you must:

  • Fully complete the Professional Liability Insurance disclosure section on the License Renewal Form;
  • Fully complete the Trust Account information on the License Renewal Form;
  • Pay the license fee and Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection Assessment;
  • Sign and return the original License Renewal Form in the enclosed envelope; 
  • If you are in MCLE Group 1 (admitted through 1975, and in 1991, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009), sign and return the completed C2 MCLE Certification Form.

If you are Inactive, you must:

  • Pay the annual license fee;
  • If you want a free subscription to NWLawyer, check the appropriate box on page 2 of the License Renewal Form.

If you are Judicial and you wish to preserve eligibility to transfer to another membership class upon leaving service as a judicial officer, you must:

  • Verify your current contact information;
  • Review the applicable court or judicial position printed on the form and check one of the three boxes to confirm that it is correct, not correct or you no longer qualify;
  • If the printed information is no longer correct, check a box to verify how you qualify for Judicial membership and mark an X next to the currently applicable court or judicial position. If you are an administrative law judge, provide the citation to the section of the USC, CFR, RCW, or WAC corresponding to your administrative law judge position;
  • Pay the $50 license fee;
  • Sign and return the original Judicial Member License Renewal Form in the enclosed envelope.

If you are Judicial and you do not wish to preserve eligibility to transfer to another membership class upon leaving service as a judicial officer, you must:

  • Verify your current contact information;
  • Review the applicable court or judicial position printed on the form and check one of the three boxes to confirm that it is correct, not correct or you no longer qualify;
  • If the printed information is no longer correct, check a box to verify how you qualify for Judicial membership and mark an X next to the currently applicable court or judicial position. If you are an administrative law judge, provide the citation to the section of the USC, CFR, RCW, or WAC corresponding to your administrative law judge position;
  • Strike the $50 on line 1 in the License Fee Payment section on p. 2;
  • Sign and return the original Judicial Member License Renewal Form in the enclosed envelope.

If you are Emeritus, you must:

  • Pay the annual license fee;
  • If you want a free subscription to NWLawyer, check the appropriate box on page 2 of the License Renewal Form.

If you are changing to Inactive, you must:

  • Check the box to "Change my membership to Inactive" on page 2 of the License Renewal Form.
  • Pay the Inactive license fee;
  • If you want a free subscription to NWLawyer, check the appropriate box on page 2 of the License Renewal Form;
  • Sign and return the original License Renewal Form.

If you are changing to Active, Voluntarily Resigned, Judicial, Emeritus, or Honorary, you must:

  • Follow the Membership Changes instructions on the License Renewal Form;
  • Review the Membership Changes webpage and follow the instructions.
