Public Service and Leadership Award

Do you know a new or young lawyer who deserves to be recognized for their long-term public service and extraordinary contribution to the community?

This year the Washington Young Lawyers Committee will honor five new or young lawyers with the Public Service and Leadership Award. This is a great opportunity to recognize the achievements of a new or young lawyer.

Nominations for 2017 have closed, watch for the award winners to be announced soon! 

The award is for licensed attorneys who are admitted and in good standing to practice in Washington and qualify as a new or young lawyer.*

Attorneys must be nominated by another individual. To complete a nomination, submit the application below and a current resume of the nominee to A subcommittee of the WYLC will consider the nominee’s leadership in their community and involvement in public service activities as described in RPC 6.1. Long-term service or an extraordinary contribution to the community will be considered, including:

  • Leadership and service in the local community or within a bar association
  • Mentoring
  • WSBA, ABA, or local bar association activities
  • Volunteering with pro bono or public service programs
  • Writing a blog post for NWSidebar and/or writing an article for NWLawyer

* A young lawyer is any WSBA member younger than 36 or with five years or less practice experience.

Selection Process 
The WYLC Leadership Subcommittee selects award recipients. Recipients may receive the award no more than once during the WSBA fiscal year (Oct. 1 –Sept. 30). WSBA staff will email the chosen award winners for confirmation and to obtain authorization to publish their name on the WSBA website, publications and social media. Recipients will be eligible to attend one WSBA-CLE program of up to six credits for use within one year of receiving the award.
