District 7 Current and Recommended Subdivisions

Except for the three at-large positions, members of the Board of Governors are elected based on congressional district. Generally, a WSBA member is eligible to vote for the governor from the congressional district in which the member resides, or in which the member has designated an agent for service (if the member resides outside Washington). Due to the number of WSBA members eligible to vote in the 7th District, a number of years ago the 7th District was divided into three subdivisions.

In 2007, during a staff review of the boundary lines for the 7th District, disparity in membership numbers among the three subdivisions of the 7th District, as well as borders that had become quite jumbled over the years, came to light. The Board of Governors appointed a task force to review the subdivisions, decide if they should be modified, and return to the Board with a recommended solution.

After considering five possible configurations for the 7th District, the task force is recommending using a geographical allocation model that redraws the 7th District into North/South/Central divisions, rather than the current West/Central/East divisions. The Board of Governors is scheduled to vote on this issue at the December 5-6 meeting. Members are invited to send comments to their governor.
