Tuesday, June 24, 2008 – World Peace through Law Section Mini-CLE: Unlawful Imprisonment of Arab Americans:  Case Study Hamoui v. Ashcroft, 389 F.3d 821 (9th Cir. 2004). Seattle attorney Bernice Funk will discuss the Hamoui v. Ashcroft, 389 F.3d 821 (9th Cir. 2004)
case and, in particular:

  • The facts and law and the government response;
  • The prejudicial ineffective assistance of immigration counsel and the WSBA response;
  • And finally, WSBA immigrant grievances against lawyers; are immigrants protected persons?

Tuesday, May 20, 2008* – World Peace through Law Section Mini-CLE: American Exceptionalism: A Challenge to Peace through Law.  Seattle attorneys Martha L. Schmidt and Marcel Green will discuss the legal concept of American Exceptionalism. The focus of the presentation will be on three strands and new developments of the legal concept: double standards, exemptionalism, and denial of jurisprudence as they relate to the US.
