The purpose of the Washington Young Lawyers Division (WYLD) shall be to encourage the interest and participation of young lawyers in WSBA activities, to develop and conduct programs of value to young lawyers and the public, to improve the legal system, and to enhance the quality of the legal profession in our state and our country.

The Washington Young Lawyers Division (WYLD) is accepting nominations for the Thomas Neville Pro Bono Award, Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year Award, and Professionalism Award. Nominations are also being accepted for the Outstanding YLD Affiliate Organization Award for recognition of public-service and/or member-service programs. WYLD Seeks De Novo Associate Editor

The Washington Young Lawyers Division (WYLD)
Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) is seeking a practicing
member of the WYLD to serve as De Novo associate
editor. Responsibilities include assisting the editor
with procuring and editing feature articles, working with
authors, and managing De Novo correspondence. The
associate editor will work closely with the editor, the
EAB, and the WYLD liaison in the areas of organizing
content, proofreading and editing, and coordinating articles
and schedules to meet deadlines. The associate
editor will ultimately assume the position of De Novo
editor. Editorial/publication experience is desirable.

received by 5:00 p.m. on August 26, 2008. It is anticipated
that the associate editor will begin his or her duties
in August or September of 2008. The position term
is 18 months as associate editor, followed by 18 months
as editor.

Any active member of the WSBA is also a member
of the WYLD until December 31 of the year in which
he or she turns 36, or until December 31 of the fifth
year in which he or she has been admitted to practice,
whichever is later.

Call for Volunteers for Free Legal Clinic

Attorneys and Non-Attorneys Needed To Volunteer at SGB/LBAW Free Legal Clinic at El Centro de la Raza.

When: Wednesdays, 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m.
August 13, September 10, and October 8

Where: El Centro de la Raza - Salvador Allende Room 106
2524 16th Ave. South, Seattle

The Latina/o Bar Association of Washington, in partnership with the Law Offices of Schroeter Goldmark & Bender, invite you to be a volunteer at an upcoming Free Legal Clinic for the Latina/o Community at El Centro de la Raza on the above-listed date. This clinic occurs every second Wednesday of the month unless there is a holiday.

Learn About the Electoral Process and How You Can Get Involved!

The WYLD Membership Committee will be hosting a three-part series on opportunities for young lawyers to get involved in the electoral process. Part 2 will focus on litigation of election law issues, governing statutes, and election and voter protection process/programs; and part 3 will focus on how young lawyers can run for public office.

Part 2 will be held September 25 at the WSBA office. Please check back for more details. This seminar is pending CLE credit.

The WYLD is hosting this event solely for educational purposes; this event is not connected with any political campaign. The WYLD and WSBA do not support or oppose any public issue unless the Board of Governors has taken a position on it. WYLD and WSBA may not support or oppose any candidate for political office.

Your Opportunity for a Free Section Membership!

Initiated by the Washington Young Lawyers Division in 2002-2003 in response to the WSBA's long-range goal to support the professional development of new lawyers, WSBA new admittees are offered one free year of membership to one section based on the date admitted to the Bar and in relationship to the current section membership year. Individuals admitted to the Bar between June and December 2007 may take advantage of free membership in one section for the current section membership year of October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008.

About the WYLD

The WYLD provides programs and services of special interest to young lawyers, to the public and to those denied access to the justice system. In particular, the WYLD:

Publishes De Novo, a bi-monthly publication serving young lawyers.
Sponsors programs that benefit high school students, including the Pre-Law Student Leadership Conference and the YMCA Mock Trial Competition.
Sponsors seminars that address the questions facing young lawyers as we balance our professional and personal lives.

Any active member of the Association shall be a member of the Division until the 31st day of December of the year in which such member attains the age of thirty-six (36) years or until the 31st day of December of the fifth (5th) year in which any such member has been admitted to practice in any state, whichever is later.
