"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

-Gandhi

Gandhi (an attorney) also said
"Experience convinces me that permanent good can never be the outcome of untruth.
Even if my belief is a fond delusion, it will be admitted that it is a fascinating delusion."

Educated in law and admitted to the bar in London, Gandhi eventually moved to South Africa to advise the Durban office of an Indian firm. There he became appalled at the widespread denial of civil liberties, and threw himself into the struggle for basic human rights.

After success litigating and organizing in South Africa, Gandhi returned home to India to continue his efforts. Despite his firm commitment to nonviolence, the Indian government arrested him on January 4, 1932 and declared the Indian National Congress illegal. Following a protracted campaign led by Gandhi, India won its independence in 1947.
