How to Fill Out the Paper A1 License Renewal Form

Contact Information

  • Verify your pre-printed contact information.
  • If you do not want your e-mail address published in Resources or the online lawyer directory, mark the box underneath your e-mail address.
  • If any contact information is no longer accurate, update your information, as required by APR 13(b) and (c), either online by logging in to www.mywsba.org or by calling or emailing the WSBA Service Center. 
  • NOTE: Your Home address/phone will be made public if it is the only official address on file.

Status Changes

For more information on the status types listed below, visit the Membership Status Changes webpage.

  • To change to Inactive status, mark the box in the License Fee Payment section on page 2, sign at the bottom of page 2 and pay $200 (or $260 to include the 30% late fee if you are paying after 2/1/10). The status change will be effective for 2010. Contact statuschanges@wsba.org to arrange for an earlier effective date.
  • To apply to Resign, download the form or contact the WSBA to request the form.
  • To apply to change to Active, e-mail statuschanges@wsba.org or call the WSBA.
  • To apply to change to Judicial, print your request on your judicial letterhead, sign, and send it to the WSBA.
  • To apply to change to Honorary (if admitted to the WSBA and on Active or Judicial status for 50 years or more), download the form or contact the WSBA to request the form.
  • To apply to change to Emeritus, contact Sharlene Steele (206-727-8262, sharlene@wsba.org). The training required to change status to Emeritus will be held on January 12, 2010.

MCLE Reporting Status

  • If this is not your year to report, this section will show you how many credits you have as of September 2009 when this information will be pulled from our database.
  • If this is your year to report, it will read, "YOU ARE DUE TO REPORT THIS YEAR.  See the enclosed C2/C3 form."
  • If you are exempt from reporting, it will read, "YOU ARE EXEMPT."
  • Information about viewing or editing your MCLE roster can be found on the Online MCLE System webpage.

Voluntary Reporting of Pro Bono

  • In this section you may report the number of hours of pro bono publico service, as defined in RPC 6.1, that you provided in 2009.
  • Use the first row of boxes to report hours of free legal services provided to persons of limited means and/or to organizations that address needs of persons of limited means (RPC 6.1(a)).
  • Use the second row of boxes to report hours of other pro bono or reduced-fee services provided (RPC 6.1(b)).
  • Enter the total combined hours in the bottom row.
  • If you contributed 50 or more hours, you will receive commendation from the WSBA unless you check the box stating that you prefer to remain anonymous. 

Emeritus Members

Print the name of the qualified legal services provider for which you are volunteering at the bottom of p.1.

License Fee Payment

  • Your 2010 License Fee, Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection Assessment (if applicable) and voluntary Campaign for Equal Justice contribution are pre-printed at the top of page 2.
  • If you are paying after 2/1/10, add 30%. (See chart.)
  • You may add in the amount of the Resources directory, which will be mailed to you in the spring if you order it.
  • If you want to take the optional Keller Deduction, find the applicable deduction amount at the bottom of the License Fee Payment section. Enter this amount on the form and subtract it to find the total amount due.
  • Line 6 is a voluntary Campaign for Equal Justice contribution. By making a tax deductible contribution to the Campaign, you are supporting the centralized effort to fund civil legal aid throughout state of Washington.  You may opt out entirely or contribute a different amount (larger or smaller) by crossing out the pre-printed amount and writing in a new amount.
  • Add lines 1 - 6 and enter the total payment on line 7.
  • In the box underneath the Total, check one box to show your payment method (Check Enclosed or Credit Card).
  • Check Payments: Write your WSBA # on the check and mail with the completed A1 License Renewal Form in the white envelope.
  • Credit Card Payments: Fill out credit card information, name and billing address and mail the signed, completed A1 License Renewal Form in the blue envelope.
  • Inactive, Honorary, and Emeritus members may check the box at the bottom of the License Fee Payment section for a free subscription to Bar News. Allow three months for the subscription to begin.

Professional Liability Insurance Disclosure

  • Pursuant to APR 26, this disclosure must be completed by ALL Active members even if you do not have liability insurance.  Failure to complete and return this disclosure constitutes grounds for suspension.
  • Mark one of the four boxes.
  • Sign, date and write the place signed at the bottom of page 2.

Trust Account Information Form

  • Pursuant to ELC 15.5, this form must be completed by ALL Active members regardless of whether you have a trust account.  Failure to comply constitutes grounds for discipline.
  • Mark Yes or No to the question on the form.
  • If you answered Yes, fill out the institution, branch/city and IOLTA account number(s).
  • Sign, date and write the place signed at the bottom of page 2.
  • You may attach a separate sheet with the institution, branch/city and IOLTA account number; however, all Active members must sign the bottom of page 2.
