External Trends Affecting the Practice of Law in Washington State
A subcommittee of the WSBA's Long-Range Strategic Planning Committee recently studied external factors affecting the practice of law in Washington state. The subcommittee focused on four areas:
• multidisciplinary practice
• the state legislature
• technological innovation
• diversity.
The subcommittee presented its findings to the Long-Range Strategic Planning Committee in May 1999. Committee members used these findings, survey results and town-meeting data to assist them in identifying critical issues affecting the practice of law in Washington, and in drafting the WSBA's Long-Range Strategic Plan.
The information considered is summarized in four articles, three of which (Multidisciplinary Practice, State Legislative Impacts, and Issue-spotting in Technology and Law Practice 2000-2005) appear in this month's Bar News. The article addressing diversity will be published in the December issue.
