LAW WEEK

A Lawyer and Judge in Every School

May 8-12, 2000

All WSBA members are encouraged to participate in an exciting statewide event to educate and inspire students about the law and our legal system – Law Week 2000!

During the week of May 8-12, 2000, hundreds of lawyers and judges throughout our state will spend all – or part – of a day in their local schools, reaching tens of thousands of students in grades one through twelve.

One of the goals of Law Week 2000 is to celebrate and promote existing public legal education programs throughout our state. There are dozens of highly successful public legal education programs run by local and specialty bar associations, the Young Lawyers Division of the WSBA, judges' groups and independent program providers already in place throughout Washington.

The WSBA Board of Governors has authorized the formation of a planning committee to organize and coordinate efforts statewide. Under the leadership of Wenatchee attorney Russell Speidel, who coordinated "A Lawyer and Judge in Every School" in Chelan and Douglas counties this year, the Committee's work is well underway. Also serving on the Committee are:

  • Hon. Lesley Allan
  • Ron Bemis
  • Wayne Blair
  • Bill Brewer
  • Elizabeth Castilleja
  • Howard Collier
  • Michele Earl-Hubbard
  • Hon. Deborah Fleck
  • Lourdes Fuentes
  • Richard Goff
  • Julia Gold
  • Todd M. Kiesz
  • Colleen Kinerk
  • Kari Kube
  • Evan Loeffler
  • James Macpherson
  • Alice Paine
  • Patrick Palace
  • Nicole Rothrock
  • Nora Tabler.

We look forward to widespread participation in this important community outreach program.
