Steve Fredrickson Wins 1999 Kutak-Dodds Award

The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) honored Steve Fredrickson, an attorney with Columbia Legal Services, on September 30 in Washington, D.C. Steve is the recipient of the Kutak-Dodds Award. This award is sponsored by NLADA and the Robert J. Kutak Foundation to recognize a legal services lawyer, public defender, or public interest lawyer who contributes significantly to the human dignity and quality of life of those unable to afford legal representation. The award comes with a $10,000 award and was named for the late Robert J. Kutak and the late Kenneth K. Dodds, former partners in the Omaha office of Kutak Rock.

Steve has served the equal justice needs of low-income people in the Seattle area and around the nation for 25 years. A former Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellow, he served as a staff attorney for the Seattle Legal Services Center until 1976, when he joined Evergreen Legal Services (now known as Columbia Legal Services). He is the author of a number of publications on landlord-tenant law and has worked hard to obtain statutory rights and protections to housing for poor clients.
