Center for Career Alternatives Enhanced Mentorship Project (EMP)
The Center for Career Alternatives (CCA) is a non-profit community based agency, which has provided employment, education, training and career development services to disadvantaged youth and adults since 1979. CCA has experience serving ethnically and culturally diverse youth populations. Its strength is working with the hardest to serve of the community_s youth.
The Enhanced Mentorship Project (EMP) is a one-on-one mentoring program that matches members of the community with healthy beliefs and standards to at-risk youth ages 12-17, living in or attending school in the Southeast Seattle area. Mentors become actively involved with the youth and provide a stable relationship by committing to weekly contact with the youth for a minimum of five hours per month for at least a year. The goals of EMP are to reduce high-risk behavior, enhance self-esteem and educational achievement, provide alternatives to the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and help to develop a vision for the future. In support of the mentor/ mentee relationship, a weekly tutoring activity session is planned and will include a study session, guest speakers, community service, and a variety of fun educational activities for the youth.
We are currently recruiting mentors willing to provide support and guidance to a youth for this exciting program. If you are interested in making a difference and becoming a positive influence in someone’s life, please contact Susan Weingartner at (206) 322-9080.
