Get Involved in Law Week

It is that time of year again where we as attorneys have a prime opportunity to promote legal education and service in the community. The first week of May 1999 is Law Week.

We as attorneys are often subject to criticism and jokes with regard to our profession. While many of us try to do public service projects and community outreach development throughout the year, Law Week gives us an opportunity to pull together as a legal community and remind the public of the positive benefits we provide.

Law Week is still a month away, giving you plenty of time to get involved in the events that will reflect on our legal community. Please get involved.

In Seattle, the Young Lawyers Division is looking for volunteers to help plan the programs for Law Week. In addition, we need law firms, attorneys, and/or judges who would be willing to host students for a lunch program during Law Week. For more information, please call Pamela Bel-Krueger at 425-453-6980 or e-mail her at kruep@perkinscoie.com.

In Spokane, the Young Lawyers Division is also looking for volunteers to help plan and put on two school-related Law Week Projects. For more information, please call Jane Parry at 509-326-1552.

Finally, if you live outside of the Seattle or Spokane area, you are encouraged to create your own Law Week projects. Call a school, landlord-tenant association, or nursing home and volunteer to speak during law week. It takes very little time and yet it can mean the world to those who receive your advice. This is your time to make a difference. Volunteer today!
