Washington State Bar Association Welcomes Ken Davidson to Board of Governors
Seattle, Washington, October 17, 2000 — The Washington State Bar Association is pleased to announce the addition of Kirkland lawyer Ken Davidson to its Board of Governors. His three-year term began October 1.
Mr. Davidson is a principal in the firm of Davidson, Czeisler, Kilpatric & Zeno. He served for five years on Washington's Access to Justice Board, was founder of the Eastside Legal Assistance Program, and is a past-president of the East King County Bar Association. Mr. Davidson's goals as a WSBA governor include promoting public legal education; assuring delivery of quality legal services; and exploring better ways to make the justice system responsive, fair and accessible.
The governance of the WSBA is vested in the 11-person Board of Governors elected by the members. There are three governors from the seventh congressional district, and one from each of the other eight districts. The Board meets regularly (every six weeks) at various locations around the state, and its meetings are open to the public. Much of the work of the Bar is carried out through its 28 standing committees; 22 sections; and a Young Lawyers Division, with its many committees.
The Washington State Bar Association is a private, non-profit organization authorized by the Washington State Supreme Court to license the state's 26,000 lawyers. The WSBA both regulates lawyers under the authority of the Court and serves its members as a professional association — all without public funding. As a regulatory agency, it administers the bar exam, provides record-keeping and licensing functions, and administers the lawyer discipline program. As a professional association, the WSBA provides continuing legal education for attorneys, in addition to numerous other educational and member-service activities.
