Walter R. Krueger Appointed Treasurer of the Washington State Bar Association

Seattle, Washington, January 6, 2000 - Kirkland attorney Walter R. Krueger has been appointed by the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) Board of Governors to serve as Treasurer, one of the WSBA's four officers. As Treasurer, Krueger chairs the WSBA Budget and Audit Committee, which oversees the WSBA's $12 million annual budget. Krueger, who was elected to the Board of Governors by WSBA members in the first congressional district, is serving his final year of a three-year term on the Board.

A sole practitioner, Krueger's practice emphasizes estate planning, trusts and probate. He is a member of the American Bar Association, East King County Bar Association, and the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association. Additionally, Krueger is Chair of the WSBA's Long-Range Planning Committee.

Krueger also serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Kirkland Interfaith Transitions in Housing, a grassroots, nonprofit housing program. He resides in Kirkland with his wife, Kathy, a college counselor at Seattle Preparatory School, and their children, Michael and Kate, who are juniors at Seattle Prep.

The Washington State Bar Association is a private, nonprofit organization authorized by the Washington State Supreme Court to license the state's 24,000 lawyers. The Washington State Bar Association both regulates lawyers under the authority of the Court and serves its members as a professional association - all without public funding. As a regulatory agency, it administers the bar examination, provides record-keeping and licensing functions, and administers the lawyer discipline program. As a professional association, it provides continuing legal education for attorneys, in addition to numerous other educational and member-service activities.

The governance of the WSBA is vested in the 11-person Board of Governors elected by the members. There are three governors from the seventh congressional district, and one from each of the other eight districts. The Board meets regularly (every six weeks) at various locations around the state, and its meetings are open to the public. Much of the work of the Bar is carried out through its 25 standing committees; 22 sections; and a Young Lawyers Division, with its many committees.
