Washington State Bar Association Honors 50-Year Members

Seattle, Washington, September 14, 2001— The Washington State Bar Association proudly congratulates its 60 members who are celebrating 50 years of membership in the Bar and service to the public. Lawyers admitted in 1951 were officially recognized at the WSBA Annual Awards Dinner last night in Seattle.

In appreciation of their service, WSBA President Jan Eric Peterson presented the 50-year members with certificates and lapel pins. Honorees and their families enjoyed an evening of fellowship — some had not seen each other since law school and were eager to reunite.

The Washington State Bar Association is a private, non-profit organization authorized by the Washington State Supreme Court to license the state's 26,500 lawyers. The WSBA both regulates lawyers under the authority of the Court and serves its members as a professional association — all without public funding. As a regulatory agency, it administers the bar exam, provides record-keeping and licensing functions, and administers the lawyer discipline program. As a professional association, the WSBA provides continuing legal education for attorneys, in addition to numerous other educational and member-service activities.
