Federal Way Lawyer Laura L. Jaeger Receives Local Hero Award
Seattle, Washington, September 17, 2001 — Federal Way lawyer Laura L. Jaeger received the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) Local Hero Award Thursday in Seattle. WSBA President Jan Eric Peterson presented the award in recognition of Ms. Jaeger's service to the residents of King County. As the WSBA Board of Governors meets around the state, the Local Hero Award is presented to a lawyer in that area who has made noteworthy contributions to the community.
A sole practitioner, Ms. Jaeger's commitment to community service runs deep. She not only donates her time and money, she also includes her children in community service projects. Charitable works and contributions are a way of life for her. Ms. Jaeger began tutoring in the High Point Housing Project when she was in high school, and continues to this day, one night a week. She organized a Habitat for Humanity project for the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association, and took a family vacation to California to work on a Habitat house. For 15 years, Ms. Jaeger has supported three children through the Christian Children's Fund, exchanging letters and providing cash and gifts for them. Each Thanksgiving and Christmas, she and her children assist with food service at Strand Helpers in Pioneer Square. Ms. Jaeger regularly provides clothing to the YWCA and Dress for Success to help low-income working women.
The Washington State Bar Association is a private, nonprofit organization authorized by the Washington Supreme Court to license the state's 26,500 lawyers. The WSBA both regulates lawyers under the authority of the Court and serves its members as a professional association — all without public funding. As a regulatory agency, it administers the bar exam, provides record-keeping and licensing functions, and administers the lawyer discipline program. As a professional association, the WSBA provides continuing legal education for attorneys, in addition to numerous other educational and member service activities.
