Robert C. Pittman, Host of Legal Line, Receives WSBA Excellence in Legal Journalism Award

Seattle, Washington, September 13, 2001 — Tacoma lawyer Robert C. Pittman will receive the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) Excellence in Legal Journalism Award today in Seattle.

Mr. Pittman is the creator and host of Legal Line, heard Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to noon on KIRO 710 AM. He has been discussing legal issues and answering general legal questions on air since 1991. His goal is to entertain while informing the public, demystifying the law, translating legalese, and providing people with legal resources. Mr. Pittman is a sole practitioner with extensive experience in real estate and estate planning.

In 1994, he received the Consumer and the Law Journalism Award, presented by the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association. Last year the Washington Supreme Court signed a unanimous resolution honoring him for his commitment to public legal education.

The Washington State Bar Association is a private, nonprofit organization authorized by the Washington Supreme Court to license the state's 26,500 lawyers. The WSBA both regulates lawyers under the authority of the Court and serves its members as a professional association — all without public funding. As a regulatory agency, it administers the bar exam, provides record-keeping and licensing functions, and administers the lawyer discipline program. As a professional association, the WSBA provides continuing legal education for attorneys, in addition to numerous other educational and member service activities.
