Randolph I. Gordon Receives WSBA President's Award

Seattle, Washington, September 13, 2001 — Bellevue lawyer Randolph I. Gordon will receive the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) President's Award today in Seattle. This award is given in recognition of special accomplishment or service to the WSBA during the term of the current president.

Last year, WSBA President Jan Eric Peterson formed the President's Initiative Task Force to plan and implement programs around the theme "Proud to Be a Lawyer." Mr. Gordon's energy, enthusiasm, inspiration and effort sparked the task force. His enthusiasm was infectious and his love for the law apparent as he worked to restore WSBA members' pride in the profession and tell the public about the good things lawyers are doing. He was the driving force behind a law school Bar orientation program and a survey of WSBA members' volunteer activities.

Mr. Gordon is a member in the Bellevue firm Casey Gordon Davis focusing on mediation and arbitration, civil litigation, personal injury, toxic exposure, and products liability. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Seattle University School of Law. In 1998, the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association presented Mr. Gordon with the Public Justice Award for his work on Birklid v. Boeing, a 1995 Washington Supreme Court decision that changed state law regarding employer liability for deliberate injury. Under the theme of "No more lawyer jokes," he has authored numerous columns on professional pride in the King County Bar Bulletin, and he has contributed articles to Washington State Bar News.

The Washington State Bar Association is a private, nonprofit organization authorized by the Washington Supreme Court to license the state's 26,500 lawyers. The WSBA both regulates lawyers under the authority of the Court and serves its members as a professional association — all without public funding. As a regulatory agency, it administers the bar exam, provides record-keeping and licensing functions, and administers the lawyer discipline program. As a professional association, the WSBA provides continuing legal education for attorneys, in addition to numerous other educational and member service activities.
