FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT Seattle Attorney Anthony R. Miles Receives Washington State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Outstanding Young Lawyer Award
Mr. Miles is an associate in the Seattle office of Preston Gates & Ellis LLP, with a practice emphasizing healthcare law, the intersection of healthcare regulation and technology, and regulatory compliance (including privacy, security, information management, and licensing and healthcare fraud and abuse). He received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 1999, where he was a Clarence Darrow Scholar, received an Earl Warren Scholarship, and was editor-in-chief of the Michigan Journal of Race & Law. He also received the Dores McCree and Jane L. Mixer awards for his contributions to the law-school community and service in the public interest. Mr. Miles actively participates in several civic organizations, and local and national bar activities. Besides being a member of the WSBA, he is secretary and member of the board of directors of the Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas, and was a 2001-2003 member of the board of directors of Rosehedge AIDS Housing and Health Care. He is a member of the WSBA Judicial Recommendation Committee, a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, a member of the Health Law Section of the American Bar Association, a member of the Washington State Society of Healthcare Attorneys, and a member of the Loren Miller Bar Association. Mr. Miles recently served as counsel of record for 112 members of Congress and the mayor of Detroit in filing a brief amicus curiae in Grutter v. Bollinger and Gratz v. Bollinger, the affirmative-action cases involving the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan Law School's admissions policies. "Tony distinguished himself by his exceptional pro bono work as counsel of record in these cases," said Preston Gates attorney James Andrus, who nominated Mr. Miles for the award. "His superior talent, dedication, and coordination efforts led to the impressive, significant impact in an important public debate on a national level, and his efforts directly impact the community of young lawyers and the future diversity of that group. The quality of the work product shines brightly as an example of what can take place when intelligence, passion, and perseverance merge in a young lawyer."
