Evan E. Inslee to Receive Local Hero Award from Washington State Bar Association

Seattle Washington, April 10, 2003 — On April 11, at a luncheon with the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) Board of Governors and the East King County Bar Association, WSBA President J. Richard Manning will present Evan E. Inslee with the WSBA Local Hero Award. As the Board of Governors meets around the state, the Bar recognizes local lawyers who have made extraordinary contributions to their communities.

Evan Inslee is a lifelong Washington resident and a graduate of the University of Washington. A member of the Bar for 47 years, he retired from active practice last year. During his long legal career, Mr. Inslee was well known for his compassion and patience, as well as his courtesy and professionalism.

Upon his retirement, the firm he founded in 1969, Inslee, Best, Doezie & Ryder PS, commemorated his long and distinguished career by establishing the Evan E. Inslee Scholarship at the University of Washington School of Law. Each year, the law school will select a student who demonstrates the traits of diligence, compassion, leadership and integrity and who shows promise of a long and successful career to receive a $2,000 scholarship.

Mr. Inslee's service to his community and his profession has been exceptional. He has helped a variety of charitable causes, political campaigns and issues, and civic organizations. He has supported Youth Eastside Services for many years serving as a member of the board of trustees, as an officer and on the advisory board. Mr. Inslee has served as fundraising chair for the Eastside Legal Assistance Program, president of the University of Washington School of Law Foundation, and member of the King County Bar Foundation.

The Washington State Bar Association is a private, nonprofit organization authorized by the Washington Supreme Court to license the state's 27,300 lawyers. The WSBA both regulates lawyers under the authority of the Court and serves its members as a professional association — all without public funding. As a regulatory agency, it administers the bar exam, provides record-keeping and licensing functions, and administers the lawyer discipline program. As a professional association, the WSBA provides continuing legal education for attorneys, in addition to numerous other educational and member service activities.
