Seattle Attorney Paula C. Littlewood Joins the Washington State Bar Association as Deputy Director

Paula LittlewoodSeattle Washington, September 19, 2003—The Washington State Bar Association announced that Seattle attorney Paula Littlewood joined the WSBA this month as its deputy director. A Pullman native, Ms. Littlewood earned her bachelor's degree in political science and history in 1988 from Claremont McKenna College, and her J.D. and Masters in International Studies in 1997 from the University of Washington. Between degrees, she traveled and worked in Asia for three years, then returned to the Northwest to fundraise for local and statewide political campaigns and initiatives.

Following law school, Ms. Littlewood became an assistant dean at the University of Washington Law School under Dean Hjorth, where she managed various departments, including development and public relations, budget/administration, computing services, and CLE. Since 1998 she has been an active member of the WSBA, participating in many committees, including chairing the Editorial Advisory Board and serving on the Legislative Committee.

"She impressed us with her energy, people-orientation, flexibility, relevant experience, and deep commitment to the profession," said WSBA Executive Director Jan Michels. "We are very pleased to have her on board."

About the Washington State Bar Association
The Washington State Bar Association is a private, nonprofit organization authorized by the Washington Supreme Court to license the state's 27,600 lawyers. The WSBA both regulates lawyers under the authority of the Court and serves its members as a professional association—all without public funding. As a regulatory agency, it administers the bar exam, provides record-keeping and licensing functions, and administers the lawyer discipline program. As a professional association, the WSBA provides continuing legal education for attorneys, in addition to numerous other educational and member-service activities.

The governance of the WSBA is vested in its 14-person Board of Governors. There are three governors from the seventh congressional district; one from each of the other eight districts; and three at-large members, one of whom represents the Young Lawyers Division. The president is David W. Savage of Pullman. The board meets every six weeks at various locations around the state, and its meetings are open to the public. Much of the work of the WSBA is carried out through its 23 standing committees, 24 sections, and a Young Lawyers Division.
