Court Rules and Procedures Committee

The Court Rules and Procedures Committee studies and develops suggested amendments to designated sets of court rules on a regular cycle of review established by the State Supreme Court. It also responds to requests for comment from the Supreme Court on proposals developed by others. The Committee performs the rules-study function outlined in General Rule 9 and reports its recommendations to the Board of Governors.

  • A list of recently adopted rules proposed by the Committee, other rule changes of interest, and suggested rule amendments can be found on this site. For more information, please see the Washington Courts website.
  • For the Oct. 1, 2014 – Sept. 30, 2015, term, the Court Rules and Procedures Committee will review the Evidence Rules (ER) and the Infraction Rules for Courts of Limited Jurisdiction (IRLJ). For more information, please see the review cycle established by the Supreme Court.
  • The Electronically Stored Information (ESI) Subcommittee continues its work on proposals to amend the Civil Rules. Please send any comments on proposed changes to ESI Subcommittee Chair Del Kolde.

The next meeting will be held on April 20, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the WSBA offices. Meeting materials will be posted one week prior to the meeting date. The meetings are open to the public.

Information for the Public

Pursuant to court order, the Committee publicizes suggested rule changes for public comment before finalizing its recommendations. Members of the bar, bench, and public are encouraged to review these proposals and send comments to the Committee.

Suggested rule changes should be submitted to the Court pursuant to the procedures set forth in GR 9(e); comments on published proposed rule changes should be submitted to the Court pursuant to GR 9(g).
