Register as a Sponsor

Sponsors or providers of CLE must create a sponsor account on the online MCLE portal (http://mcle.mywsba.org/sponsor).

Apply for MCLE Credit for a Course

To apply for MCLE credit for a course, a sponsor must submit a completed “Form 1” through the online MCLE portal and pay the $50 application fee.  Currently, there is no deadline for timely applying for credit.  However, in-house courses by private law firms, corporate legal departments and government agency sponsors must apply at least 14 days prior to the date of the course; otherwise a $35 late fee will be assessed.

Report Attendance

For each live approved program, the sponsor must submit attendance no later than 30 days after the conclusion of the course.  Sponsors must submit attendance through the online MCLE portal.  The fee for reporting attendance is $1 per attendee.  There is a $35 late fee if it is reported more than 30 days after the course.  Lawyers are responsible for reporting their own completion of recorded courses.

Duplicating an Approved Course

A sponsor may apply for approval of another occurrence of a course that is already approved if it is to be presented by that sponsor within 12 months from the original approval date.  Create a duplicate Form 1 on the MCLE website for each subsequent presentation.  The duplicate must be submitted at least one day before the subsequent presentation of the previously approved activity.

Creating a Recorded Course from an Approved Live Course

Sponsors may also use "duplicate" to create recorded activity based on an already-approved live program. The recorded activity will be valid for five years from the original recording date.  Note: The recorded program should be accredited to match the run time of the recorded program. This may not match the accreditation of the live program, due to program editing.

MCLE Rules for Sponsors

Sponsors must abide by the requirements and standards set forth in Appendix APR 11, Regulations 101-104.

APR 11 and Regulations to APR 11 are effective through Dec. 31, 2015, and all courses until Dec. 31, 2015, must meet the credit requirements under these rules.

new APR 11 takes effect on Jan. 1, 2016. All courses taking place on or after January 1, 2016 must comply with the new rules.  A significant change for 2016 is that all sponsors will be required to submit their application for approval of credits at least 15 days prior to the date of the course.  Late submissions will be assessed a $35 late fee.  Additional information about the new rules will be posted soon.

MCLE Forms for Sponsors

Partial Attendance Certification Form — All sponsors are required by APR 11.6(a)(1) to make available to all attendees a copy of the Attendance Certification Form at each live, in-person CLE program.  Attendees are to fill them out and return them to sponsors if they did not attend the entire program. This is to help sponsors accurately report the attendance for each program.  Sponsors may use their own forms for this purpose.

Model Course Evaluation — Sponsors may download this form to distribute to attendees, or may use their own forms to collect course evaluations.

Paper Form 1 — Sponsors may download a paper Form 1 application for course approval if they are unable to use the online MCLE portal.  The application fee for paper forms is $100 and the attendance reporting by paper is $3 per attendee.

Fee Calculation Worksheet — Sponsors may use this form to help calculate the fees due when applying for course accreditation and reporting attendance by paper.
