Meet the district candidates at the March 1 Candidate Forum

Meet the 12 candidates running for three district seats on the WSBA Board of Governors at our March 1, 2018 Candidate Forum. The event will be held at WSBA's offices in Seattle beginning at 5:30 p.m. Members are encouraged to attend and bring questions for the candidates. The forum also will be webcast and accessible statewide for live viewing.

Voting

The district-based positions are elected by their peers. Generally, members are entitled to vote in the congressional district in which they reside. All out-of-state active WSBA members are eligible to vote in the district of the address of their agent within Washington for the purpose of receiving service of process, or if specifically designated to the WSBA executive director, within the district of their primary Washington practice. WSBA uses an electronic voting system, and members will not receive a paper ballot unless they request one. Email ballots will be sent on March 15, 2018, and votes must be received by 5 p.m. PST on April 2, 2018. Paper ballots will be mailed upon request, and completed ballots must be received in the WSBA Office of the Executive Director by 5 p.m. PDT on April 2, 2018.

At-large Positions and President-Elect

  • Other at-large positions
  • President-elect position

At-large — New and Young Lawyer position: Any active lawyer member of WSBA who qualifies as a young lawyer as of Oct. 1, 2018 (and who has not previously served on the Board for more than 18 months) may run for the At-large: New & Young Lawyer position. Complete this nomination form, sign it, scan it, and email it along with the required attachments to barleaders@wsba.org by 5 p.m. PST on April 20, 2018. Candidates will be evaluated by the Washington Young Lawyer Committee (WYLC). The WYLC will nominate at least two candidates to be interviewed for election by the Board of Governors at its May 17-18 meeting, which will be webcast. The three-year term begins Oct. 1, 2018.

The WYLC will use the following criteria when evaluating candidates:

  • Shows initiative, leadership, and responsibility
  • Engages with the legal community
  • Establishes collaborative relationships
  • Experience with other volunteer leadership roles
  • Understands WSBA Mission and the role of the Bar

Other at-large positions: The Washington Supreme Court in January passed an order to codify the Board of Governors’ decision to add three new positions to its ranks —  two community at-large seats and one Limited License Legal Technician/Limited Practice Officer at-large seat. The board will decide in May how to bring on these new positions. Nomination information, timelines, and eligibility requirements will be posted afterward on this page; interested people can also contact Pam Inglesby at pami@wsba.org, 206-727-8226.

President-elect position: Information about eligibility for the 2018-2019 President-elect position will be posted on this page in mid-March. The application deadline will be April 10, 2018.
